OnePlus has just released the latest smartphone in its lineup which is the OnePlus 5. The smartphone has been launched in all the major smartphone markets including India and the smartphone has been setting sales records all around the world. The OnePlus 5 is also said to be the fastest selling OnePlus smartphone to date. The OnePlus 5 is the successor to the OnePlus 3/3T which was released at the same time last year.
Now, there were questions raised about the software support from the company after OnePlus announced that the OnePlus 2, as well as OnePlus X, will not receive Android 7.0 Nougat update officially from the company. This made the users of OnePlus 3/3T concerned about the software support on their phones and the users have been asking for clarification from OnePlus about the updates to their smartphones.
Now, OnePlus has answered all the queries regarding the software updates for the OnePlus 3/3T. OnePlus, to a question which read “How long will OnePlus 3/3T continue to receive software update” answered that the OnePlus 3/3T users will receive Android O as the last major Android update on their smartphones. After that, however, OnePlus will continue to release the Android security patch updates to the smartphones but the smartphone will not receive Android P and later versions.
OnePlus also added that the Open Beta Program which was released by the company for the OnePlus 3/3T will be migrated to the OnePlus 5 after the OnePlus 3/3T’s software update lifetime ends after receiving the Android O update. In terms of the duration for which OnePlus 3/3T will get the Android security patch updates, OnePlus answered that it will continue to release security patch updates for the foreseeable future. It is important to note that OnePlus 3/3T have received Android 7.0 Nougat update till now and the smartphone was released with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.
